Guest post from Elle McKinney:

Ones to watch: what are your most anticipated books for the rest of the year,
and why?

Whew, there are so many books I’m looking forward to. I’m actually glad the
limit of “for the rest of the year” was thrown on there because I’d be in trouble if
I was allowed to go into 2019 and even 2020! Man, they’re already announcing
books for 2020…and 2018 is already about three fourths of the way over. I swear
it was New Year’s just last week. Makes my head hurt, thinking about it. Oh well,
on to the books!

I’m looking forward to a lot of stuff, one being FOR A MUSE OF FIRE by Heidi
Heilig, which releases the same day as my book! I feel so fortunate. Heidi’s
characters and world building are honestly to die for. Her stories are rich and
lush and it sounds like this one will be no different. I’m really eager to see how
the music—literal sheet music—will fit into all of this. It’s nothing I’ve ever seen
before, and I’m ALL the excited!

I’m also looking forward to BLANCA & ROJA by Anna-Marie McLemore. So,
confession, I really enjoyed the Swan Princess movie as a kid. Like, really enjoyed
it, and this book looks to mix elements of Snow White and Rose Red with the
Swan Princess, but with a bit more grit, a bit more edge. I’m all the way here for
every second of that. Sounds incredibly.

So, I’m gonna cheat a bit, and say that I’m looking forward to THE ENTERNAL
ROSE by Dhonielle Clayton, which actually doesn’t come out until March
2019—I’m so distraught I have to wait. I read THE BELLES, and I recommend
everyone who hasn’t rectify this, and it…I…no words. No words! I need the next
book. Now. I need it now, but I have to wait. It’s so unfair. SO unfair. I don’t know
how I’m going to get through this.

I think that’s a good place to stop. A three-book recommendation list is doing
enough damage to people’s TBR piles, I think. My own pile remains…well, there’s
honestly no helping it, so I don’t even entertain the notion of trying. It’s massive,
it grows before it shrinks, and if it ever does shrink it never stays that way for
long. I’m always adding to it and trying to put a lasting dent in it would be little
more than an exercise in futility, and I’m okay with that. Hi, I’m Elle McKinney,
and I have a book problem.

  1. I have the same problem. I always swear I won’t take anymore books out until I’ve finished the ones I have. But no, I never do.
